In this course students will be introduces to the ten major health strands with some hands-on activities relating to topics important to students. Students will practice and learn the six major life skills: make decisions, set goals, obtain help, manage stress, practice refusal skills, and resolve conflicts. With these skills, students will have the skills they need to lead a healthy lifestyle. The course will engage students in journal writing, mini projects, online and offline quizzes and tests will be used to check for understanding of material covered.
Enduring Understanding
The student will understand:
- Setting goals that reflect positively on all three aspects of the Health Triangle.
- Communicable diseases can be prevented through healthy lifestyle choices.
- Maintaining a healthy environment for you and your peers within your home, school and community.
- Having an active role in the care of ill or injured citizens.
- Decision making skills help to develop healthy eating habits.
- Effective communication decreases conflicts and potential violence.
- Proper knowledge of your body systems will aid in your care and long-term health.
- During adolescence, one will go through many physical and emotional changes.
