In this course, students will learn and practice strategies which have been proven to increase reading skill levels and comprehension. You will be immersed in a reading environment that encourages reading for enjoyment, learning, and lifelong success. The course introduces several novels, poems, short stories, and plays to read while also working on writing narrative, persuasive, and informative essays in the student's daily activities with vocabulary strengthening activities. The course also introduces listening and speaking strategies and practices these skills for students to become proficient in communication skills. Students will be introduced to research techniques that will help them improve their researching ability. Students will explore the library and read independently and maximize all of the resources available by utilizing technology.
