Enduring Understandings


There are 5 major understandings that form the core of this course:

  • Doing Science involves a way of thinking about problems called the Scientific Method.
  • In order to come to valid conclusions, accurate measurement is essential.
  • Every substance has characteristic properties that determine how the substance behaves under different conditions.
  • The characteristic properties of matter are determined by the underlying structure of the atoms in the sample of matter.
  • The atomic structure of an element determines how it will react with other elements to form compounds.
