Science 8A
SC.08.Science8ATF.Bnet4copy
This course is designed to provide a basic understanding of Chemistry. It will also emphasize the Scientific Method. You will learn how to use the Scientific Method as it is applied not only to the study of Chemistry, but also how it can be used to solve real-world problems. You will have a variety of activities that will include using various websites, interactive tutorials, a discussion board, a wiki, and podcasting. The course is divided into units. Within each unit there will be lessons that will contain assignments, discussion board, quizzes and activities that will vary according to the material. You will have a unit test at the end of each unit.
Enduring Understandings
There are 5 major understandings that form the core of this course:
- Doing Science involves a way of thinking about problems called the Scientific Method.
- In order to come to valid conclusions, accurate measurement is essential.
- Every substance has characteristic properties that determine how the substance behaves under different conditions.
- The characteristic properties of matter are determined by the underlying structure of the atoms in the sample of matter.
- The atomic structure of an element determines how it will react with other elements to form compounds.
